Crossings Festival
Programme
Crossings presents a diverse range of contemporary independent theatre, spanning devised, experimental, puppet, kinetic, and street forms that often defy clear genre definitions, and bringing together Slovenian and international artists from Europe and beyond. Rooted in the development of the independent scene, the programme highlights work that engages critically with its social and political context, reflecting a commitment to openness, inclusion, and solidarity. In addition to performances, the festival regularly offers workshops for professionals and emerging practitioners, focusing on areas such as performance-making, clowning, and puppetry, and providing space for exchange and skill development.
Theatre performances form the core of the Crossings Festival, which is also conceived as a social and professional gathering. To connect local stakeholders in the performing arts field, the programme unfolds across several venues in Maribor, including the Intimate Stage, GT22, as well as partner institutions such as Maribor Puppet Theatre, Narodni dom Maribor, and Slovene National Theatre Maribor. In 2023, the latter also hosted a conference on Forced Entertainment, co-organised by Crossings and the Maribor Theatre Festival.
