Cultural cooperation
The embassy also supports the promotion of Iranian culture in Slovenia. The Agreement between the Republic of Slovenia and Islamic Republic of Iran in the fields of Education, Culture and Science was signed in 2001.
There is active academic cooperation, including a 2023 Memorandum of Understanding for teaching Persian language and literature at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana.
The Iran-Slovenia Friendship Association facilitates exchanges, organizes cultural weeks, and fosters dialogue between artistic and academic institutions.
Film
In February 2012 the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Slovenia collaborated with Slovenian Cinematheque and supported the film retrospective of Iran's most renowned film writer and director Reza Mirkarimi. The author, who in 2001 was also awarded in Cannes for his feature film Under the Moonlight (2000), was a special guest at the Ljubljana event. His five feature films were screened at Slovenian Cinematheque in Ljubljana as well as at Kino Udarnik in Maribor.
Puppet theatre and music
In February 2013 the Embassy supported "The Cultural Week of the Islamic Republic of Iran", held at the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre. The programme under the title Islamic Iran in the Mirror of Culture and Civilisations included a presentation of Iranian traditional literature and paintings, the puppet performance ChelCheloon by Mehdi Habibi, and a concert of traditional Persian music by Mezrab.
