The Association of Cultural Institutions of Slovenia KUDUS is a voluntary and non-profit association based in Sežana that connects various organisations and culture houses (kulturni domovi) which carry out cultural programmes in the public interest. The aim of the association is the mutual cooperation, development, promotion and protection of its members' interests and the exchange of good practices. Members of KUDUS include 49 cultural organisations throughout Slovenia.

Background

Established in 2007 by 7 public cultural organisations on the initiative of actor Gojmir Lešnjak – Gojc, who was also its first president, followed by Janoš Kern and Pavla Jarc. Its motto is "Culture is everywhere at home".

Mission

The Association of Cultural Institutions of Slovenia KUDUS is an umbrella organisation that conducts professional educational trainings and meetings of its members and professionals in education and culture; monitors cultural policies and legislation on cultural topics; makes legislative initiatives in the field of culture; coordinates programmes in various cultural areas, from theatre, concerts, gallery activities to education and publishing; and generally represents the common interests of the association's members. It strives to resist the commercialisation of cultural programmes at the national and regional levels.
