Cultural Society raum AU was established in 2009. Its mission, closely connected to the legacy of the artist Pino Poggi and the art movement Arte Utile that he developed, combines contemporary arts with social and political engagement. The society manages the replica of Pino Poggi’s studio in Slovenj Gradec where the Arte Utile and the Arte Utile Journey residencies are taking place. It frequently collaborates with the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška.

Arte Utile Movement

Arte Utile movement was started in the mid-1960s by the artist Pino Poggi. It is deeply rooted in political engagement and social involvement and seeks to explore all areas of society. It operates in a manner similar to Beuys’ concept of social sculpture, though with a different language and a more pedagogical approach. Arte Utile is oriented towards social dialogue and can exist only within such a framework. The utilist is therefore sensitive and creative, aware of issues in their environment and engaged with them, thus being “utile” – socially useful.
