Established in 2007, the BUMfest International Percussion Festival stands as the sole Slovenian percussion music festival. Held in Žalec, the festival boasts a consistently successful and regularly sold-out musical programme that showcases a diverse range of percussion and drumming projects, often incorporating elements of theatre, dance, humour and sound experimentation. In addition to the evening concerts, the festival includes music workshops, matinee performances for schoolchildren, exhibitions and more.

Programme

Under the direction of Dejan Tamše from the SToP Slovene Percussion Project, the festival's main programme unfolds at the Dom II. slovenskega tabora Žalec. Additionally, post-festival exhibitions are curated at Savinov likovni salon.

The festival has welcomed artists from various corners of the globe, including Taiwan, Brazil, the United States, Mexico, and numerous European countries. Notable guests have included the Funky Currywurst Brothers (AT, DK), Percussive (BE), Odaiko (ES), Groovetrotters (DE, AT), Quatuor Beat (FR), Sudar Percussion (HR), Percossa (NL), and The Strokes (HU).

Moreover, the festival occasionally serves as a catalyst for projects like Faces and Places. This initiative featured the SToP Slovene Percussion Project, the Studio Percussion Graz (AT), and guest musicians who arrived in Europe as refugees or migrants.
